You might have heard about Barrow for Marrow, an amazing group of friends from Liverpool who’ve raised more than £28,000 in aid of Anthony Nolan, all in just one year!

How it all began Barrow for Marrow started supporting Anthony Nolan last April with a sponsored walk because a team member’s son, Charlie, had received a lifesaving bone marrow transplant – but their incredible support didn’t stop there.

They’ve since taken on challenges including a walk-with-wheelbarrows from Manchester to Liverpool, the Great North Run, the Santa Dash, the 3 Peaks Challenge, and the London Marathon (just a few short weeks ago) as well as organising a fantastic party for Anthony Nolan’s Hero Day. This year they’ll be facing the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100, sponsored walks, and fearsome football matches!

We really can’t thank them enough for all their hard work, which has been recognised both at our annual supporter awards and by the Liverpool Echo’s Pride of Merseyside awards.

Andrew’s incredible lifesaving journey Today, Barrow for Marrow’s Andrew Rogerson (29), aka the Cycling Scouser, will be taking on an utterly unbelievable challenge, cycling from Shanghai in China all the way back home to Liverpool. It’s a 10,000 mile trip…and he plans to accomplish it in just five months.

Andrew at Machu PIcchu

Andrew will be passing through 15 countries before he arrives back in the UK, including China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, the Czech Republic and Germany. He’ll be on his own, carrying his own food and water, with just a trusty tent to protect him from the elements! (He’s set himself a strict limit of one night in a hotel or hostel every 14 days, to give himself a chance to shower and recharge his equipment.)

Here's everything he'll be taking for his epic journey

For much of the trip, he’ll be travelling along the legendary Silk Road, where he could go for as long as five days without seeing another soul.

Andrew has already raised more than £2,000 and he’s still going strong. If you’d like to contribute towards his incredible journey, visit his JustGiving page here.

Three cheers for our wheely wonders Craig Wills, Community Fundraising Manager at Anthony Nolan, said:

‘What Barrow for Marrow have achieved in the past year is nothing short of extraordinary. Not only have they raised over £28,000, allowing us to add more than 250 potential lifesavers to the register, but they’ve also raised a huge amount of awareness in Liverpool and beyond, which is truly invaluable. They’re not just supporters of Anthony Nolan – they’re our lifelong friends.’

From every single one of us here, good luck to Andrew! We’ll be following you and cheering you on every step of the way.
