‘My biggest lesson from 2020? We can’t help everyone but everyone can help someone.’

2020 will always be remembered as a tough year but, for Daisy, it will also be memorable for a very good reason. She told us, ‘I hope after a terrible year my story brings a little bit of light and spreads a little bit of love.’ So, here is her story.

In August I found out I was a match for someone in need of lifesaving stem cell donation. My heart skipped a beat and my answer was an immediate YES! To be able to do something positive during such a terrible year felt truly amazing.

I donated my stem cells in December. With the stress of Covid-19 ever-present, the process was a bit tough at times but I kept the vision of what this would mean to my recipient in my mind and heart, which spurred me on.

The whole experience has really changed my life and perspective so much. I’m going into a new year knowing that I have been able to give someone and their family hope and a second chance at life. It’s such a humbling and truly life changing feeling, even more so at this time. Things may feel out of our control. But while we can’t help everyone, everyone can help someone.

So, I’ll be telling my story to anyone who will listen and urging everyone to sign up to the register if they can. I will be shouting from the rooftops the difference that can potentially be made just by giving a little bit of yourself!

I hope after a terrible year this brings a little bit of light and spreads a little bit of love. And, if you can join the register, there’s no better time than now.
